Subaru cars are famous for making a very specific rumble or boxer noise. It's due to an UNequal length exhaust manifold or header if you like. Recent Subaru vehicles mainly utilise an equal length, 4-2-1 exhaust manifolds to maximise the engine performance, which means that the "boxer sound" is now disappearing. Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ, of course, utilise an equal length, 4-2-1 exhaust manifolds for the best engine performance.

Upgrading to a new exhaust manifold will increase your GT86's / BRZ's performance. Losing the infamous "torque dip" can be achieved with a remap, which will transform the feeling of the car when you step on the accelerator.

Does creating Subaru "boxer sound" spoil the engine performance? To answer this question, HKS conducted various tests and verified the results. As a result, unequal length 4-1 exhaust manifold was developed, and reproduction of “boxer sound” and engine output improvement were achieved together.

The main features of this product are the optimised bank pipe diameter for the right and left sides and vehicle specific catalyser to manage both the exhaust gas and engine output. This manifold is made of a very durable SUS304 stainless steel, therefore it is capable of being used at very high temperatures on a race circuit without any cracks or possible faults that cheaper manifolds could cause.
